Fear and doubt are not signs that you’re on the wrong road. They’re often signs that you’re on the right one — that you’re attempting something that matters, something that stretches you, something with real stakes. The absence of fear and doubt tends to indicate you’re staying well within the boundaries of what’s already proven safe.
Fear says this might not work out. Doubt says maybe I’m not enough for this. Both are voices, not verdicts. They carry the weight of possibility, not certainty. The question is not whether you’ll hear them — you will — but how you’ll respond when you do.
Acknowledge fear when it shows up. Name it. I’m afraid this will fail. I’m doubting whether I have what it takes. Naming what you feel removes some of its power. You are no longer controlled by a nameless dread — you’re dealing with a specific concern that can be examined and addressed.
Then ask: Is this fear showing me a real danger I should prepare for, or is it the predictable anxiety of doing something new? Often it’s the latter. Often the very presence of fear signals that you’re at the edge of your growth — and that’s exactly where you want to be.
Proceed with caution — and proceed. Fear and doubt are fellow travelers, not roadblocks. You can move forward even with them in the car.
